Permanently Closed

Oil paint, oil pastel and wood varnish on wood panel, September 2022.

I created this painting for Fun Set, a show of St. Petersburg, Florida themed artwork curated by Chad Mize of MIZE gallery. It was displayed at Green Bench Brewing in St. Pete and sold opening night.

The show’s theme set out to represent St. Pete with a vintage vibe or a futuristic twist. I was inspired by Haslam’s Books, whose business status changed to permanently closed during COVID, but the building remained and the shuttering was never officially announced until recently in 2025. I imagined the city growing around the abandoned building in a Ray Bradbury or Philip K. Dick-esque society.
